Bud for Blood is a public health initiative sponsored by cannabis companies and organizations to educate and motivate cannabis consumers to donate blood locally. While we started off as a completely online initiative, we have begun connecting cannabis businesses with friendly blood banks to host blood drives in their communities! Whether it’s a friendly online competition to drive the most blood donations, to hosting IRL blood drives, Bud for Blood is here to help the cannabis industry to support the blood industry!
At this current time, we are operating as a for profit entity under an LLC due to the entire campaign being run by a single person. Until we have enough capital to go nonprofit and take on a board, we will provide financial transparency reports by request. All funds given to Bud for Blood will be spent as follows:
- Competition campaign prizes
- Paid marketing
- Administration
- Outreach
- Travel
- BFB Donor T-shirts and shipping
- Social media and email campaign help
- Entity Formation eventually!

We are based in Los Angeles, CA, but our campaigns are online, and US based. Hopefully international campaigns will start by early next year!
Bud for Blood was created by Kristen Yoder, owner of Cynical Stoner, a snarky clothing company and podcast of the same name, made for cannabis industry insiders.
In these dystopic, depressing times, who isn’t seeking a way to make some sort of positive impact in their community?
Bud for Blood was the second campaign idea Kristen came up with to combat her cynical apathy and general feeling of lack of control in life.
The first campaign was printing out Random Notes of Kindness and giving them to the front line workers that we USED to thank and appreciate and refer to as “essential”. Besides reminding people that they are valuable and matter, and hopefully lifting their spirits, it also leads to a nice boost for the giver of the note as well.
Before the first campaign launched, the name, Bud for Blood, WAS a literal interpretation with dispensaries giving free or discounted cannabis to blood donors.
However, it became clear that the logistics of pulling it off on a national level were messy if not impossible, and in the end, this campaign is not about cannabis, it’s about increasing blood donations. As it stands today, Bud for Blood = the “bud” industry supporting the blood industry.
Instead of weed, Bud for Blood sends dope, extra exclusive “#BudforBlood Team Member” hemp blend t-shirts to blood donors with proof of donation via donor selfie and submitting donor application. Each season and each campaign will have a new design, and only donors and sponsors get them, so you really are joining an exclusive team of beautiful, selfless stoners.

If you have never donated blood before, we highly recommend you review the blood donor eligibility requirements before going to your donation.
Bud for Blood is not formally associated with any specific blood banks. Rather, we exist to educate and motivate cannabis consumers to donate blood at their local blood banks, hospitals and/or blood drives
The blood shortage is a global crisis, and there are cannabis consumers on nearly every continent! Although we are based in the US, we would love to spread the campaign internationally!
